Mimicry client apps

To use Mimicry, install a client app on every device you want to connect. Android and Windows apps come straight from the panel, on the Mimicry module's Users page. The Apple app — for iPhone, iPad, and Mac — is on the App Store.

Android

The Android client card offers Download APK for a direct download, or Copy link to share an installable link instead — the link works without a panel account and expires after 24 hours.

Since the app isn't distributed through Google Play yet, Android may ask you to allow installing from this source the first time you open the APK — allow it to continue.

ℹ️ Keep an eye on app updates

The app updates from time to time; the module's interface shows when a new version is out. Check back in the panel periodically to hand users links for downloading the updated versions.

Connecting a device

  1. On the Mimicry module's Users page in the panel, click a user row — it expands with a QR code and the QR code, Download config, and Send to email buttons (email requires SMTP).
  2. Install and open the Mimicry app as described above.
  3. In the app, pick Add connection.
  4. Tap Scan QR code and point the camera at the QR code on the panel screen. Or open the configuration file you downloaded via Download config with the app — the connection is added automatically.
  5. Activate the added connection in the app.

Windows

The Windows client card offers Download for Windows for a direct .exe, or Copy link to share an installable link instead — again, no panel account needed, and the link is valid for 24 hours.

Check the table below before handing the installer to a user — an unsupported system won't run it.

Supported versions

Windows versionApp runs
Windows 11 (x64; ARM64 via x64 emulation)Yes
Windows 10, 64‑bit, version 2004 (build 19041) or later — 20H2, 21H2, 22H2Yes
Windows 10 earlier than version 2004 (1507–1909)No

Windows Server 2019 (17763), Windows Server 2016No

Windows 10: the feature update matters

"Windows 10" alone doesn't guarantee compatibility — the feature update does. Only version 2004 (build 19041, released May 2020) and later works: 2004, 20H2, 21H2, 22H2. Earlier feature updates, from the original 1507 release through 1909, can't run the client at all.

Not sure which version a device is running? Press Win + R, type winver, and press Enter — the dialog shows the Windows edition and the build number.

Server editions

Windows Server 2022 (build 20348) runs the client. Windows Server 2019 (build 17763) and Windows Server 2016 do not.

Connecting a device

  1. On the Mimicry module's Users page in the panel, click a user row — it expands with a QR code and the QR code, Download config, and Send to email buttons (email requires SMTP).

  3. In the app, pick Add connection.
  4. If the computer has a camera, tap Scan QR code and point it at the QR code on the panel screen. No camera? Open the configuration file you downloaded via Download config with the app — the connection is added automatically.
  5. Activate the added connection in the app.

Apple (iPhone, iPad, and Mac)

The Mimicry app is on the App Store — install it on an iPhone, iPad, or Mac like any other App Store app. The panel doesn't host this one; the App Store handles delivery and updates on its own.
