Amnezia. Setting up client apps

For this article you'll need the configuration from the panel — in the expanded Amnezia user row it's shown as two QR codes, on the AmneziaVPN and AmneziaWG tabs, and as a .conf file behind the Download .conf button. If you don't have a user yet, start with Amnezia quick start.

⚠️ Two QR codes — use the AmneziaWG tab

In the expanded user row, the panel shows two QR codes — on the AmneziaVPN and AmneziaWG tabs; the steps below use the AmneziaWG tab. The QR code from the AmneziaVPN tab won't work in the AmneziaWG app.

Windows

Main app — AmneziaWG.

1. Download the installer from the link above and finish the installation.
2. Download the .conf file via the Download .conf button — from the AmneziaWG tab.
3. In the app, click "Add Tunnel" and choose "Import tunnel(s) from file…" — point it at the downloaded .conf.
4. Click "Activate" next to the added tunnel.

AmneziaWG only opens its interface under an account from the "Administrators" group. If yours isn't in that group, use AmneziaVPN instead — it accepts the same .conf file without any rights restrictions.

Android

Main app — AmneziaWG on Google Play.

1. Install the app from the link above.
2. In the app, tap "+" and choose "Scan from QR code".
3. Point the camera at the QR code on the AmneziaWG tab in the panel's expanded user row.
4. Turn on the toggle for the added tunnel. Android will show a system prompt to set up a VPN connection — confirm it.

If you need more than just the AmneziaWG protocol, use the multi-protocol client AmneziaVPN instead — it scans the QR code from the AmneziaVPN tab.

iPhone and iPad

Main app — AmneziaWG from the App Store.

1. Install the app from the link above.
2. In the app, tap "Add a tunnel" and choose "Create from QR code".
3. Point the camera at the QR code on the AmneziaWG tab in the panel's expanded user row.
4. Turn on the toggle for the added tunnel. iOS will ask permission to add a VPN configuration — allow it and confirm with Face ID, Touch ID, or your passcode.

For the .conf file instead of a QR code, tap and hold it in the Files app, choose "Share", and pick AmneziaWG.

If you need more than just the AmneziaWG protocol, use the multi-protocol client AmneziaVPN instead (if it's available in your App Store) — it scans the QR code from the AmneziaVPN tab.

macOS

Main app — AmneziaWG from the App Store.

1. Install the app from the link above.
2. Download the .conf file via the Download .conf button — from the AmneziaWG tab.
3. In the app, click "Import tunnel(s) from file", pick the downloaded .conf, and confirm with "Import".
4. Turn on the toggle for the added tunnel. If macOS asks permission to add VPN configurations, click "Allow".

If you need more than just the AmneziaWG protocol, use the multi-protocol client AmneziaVPN instead — it also accepts the .conf file from the AmneziaWG tab, or scans the QR code from the AmneziaVPN tab.

Checking that the VPN works

Open myip.com in your browser. If everything is set up correctly, the page will show your server's country.

If it doesn't connect

• Check the Enabled toggle in the collapsed user row in the panel — for a disabled user, neither the QR codes nor the .conf file work.
• If the QR code won't scan, download the .conf file from the same tab via the Download .conf button and import it instead — both apps accept the file on any platform.
• If AmneziaWG refuses a QR code with an error about an invalid configuration format, you scanned the AmneziaVPN tab instead of AmneziaWG — switch to the right tab in the panel.

⚠️ ISP restrictions

Traffic encryption makes a VPN a reliable way to protect a connection, but in some countries and regions internet providers actively interfere with VPN protocols. Because of this, full availability of the service cannot be guaranteed — regardless of the connection type. If one protocol does not work for you, try another VPN module available in the panel. If none of them work on your network, contact support and we will issue a refund for the license.
