OpenVPN. Setting up client apps

For this article you'll need an .ovpn file — the panel generates it for every OpenVPN user, in the expanded row of the list, via the Download .ovpn button. If you don't have a user yet, start with OpenVPN quick start.

On all four platforms the connection goes through the same official app — OpenVPN Connect — and the import steps inside it are identical.

Windows

App — OpenVPN Connect.

1. Download the installer from the link above, run it, and finish the installation.
2. Download the .ovpn file for the user via the Download .ovpn button.
3. Launch OpenVPN Connect, open the menu, and choose "My Profiles".
4. Tap the add icon, and on the "Import Profile" screen choose "Upload File" — point it at the downloaded .ovpn.
5. Confirm the import with "OK".
6. Click "Connect" on the added profile.

You can also just drag and drop the .ovpn file onto the app window, or double-click it — the same confirmation dialog with an "OK" button appears.

Android

App — OpenVPN Connect on Google Play.

1. Install the app from the link above.
2. Download the .ovpn file for the user via the Download .ovpn button and get it onto the phone however you prefer — email, cloud, or a messenger.
3. Open OpenVPN Connect, open the menu, and choose "My Profiles".
4. Tap the add icon, and on the "Import Profile" screen choose "Upload File" — point it at the .ovpn file.
5. Confirm the import with "OK".
6. Tap "Connect". Android will show a system prompt to set up a VPN connection — confirm it.

iPhone and iPad

App — OpenVPN Connect from the App Store.

1. Install the app from the link above.
2. Download the .ovpn file for the user via the Download .ovpn button and get it onto the device however you prefer — email, cloud, or a messenger.
3. Open OpenVPN Connect, open the menu, and choose "My Profiles".
4. Tap the add icon, and on the "Import Profile" screen choose "Upload File" — pick the .ovpn file in the Files app.
5. Confirm the import with "OK".
6. Tap "Connect". iOS will ask permission to add a VPN configuration — allow it and confirm with Face ID, Touch ID, or your passcode.

macOS

App — OpenVPN Connect.

1. Download the disk image from the link above, open it, and finish the installation.
2. Download the .ovpn file for the user via the Download .ovpn button.
3. Launch OpenVPN Connect, open the menu, and choose "My Profiles".
4. Tap the add icon, and on the "Import Profile" screen choose "Upload File" — point it at the downloaded .ovpn.
5. Confirm the import with "OK".
6. Click "Connect" on the added profile. macOS will ask permission to add a VPN configuration — confirm with Touch ID or your administrator password.

You can also just drag and drop the .ovpn file onto the app window, or double-click it — the same confirmation dialog with an "OK" button appears.

Checking that the VPN works

Open myip.com in your browser. If everything is set up correctly, the page will show your server's country.

If it doesn't connect

• Check the Enabled toggle in the collapsed user row in the panel — a disabled user's .ovpn file doesn't work.
• If you received the .ovpn as an email attachment, save it to the device first — "Upload File" looks for the file in storage, it doesn't open the attachment directly.

⚠️ ISP restrictions

Traffic encryption makes a VPN a reliable way to protect a connection, but in some countries and regions internet providers actively interfere with VPN protocols. Because of this, full availability of the service cannot be guaranteed — regardless of the connection type. If one protocol does not work for you, try another VPN module available in the panel. If none of them work on your network, contact support and we will issue a refund for the license.
